ACL rehab is a long road, usually measured in months. Breaking it into milestones makes it far more manageable (sample protocol; always follow your surgeon’s guidance).

Early weeks

The focus is controlling swelling, getting the knee fully straight and walking without a limp.

Building strength

Next comes progressive strength work for the thigh, hip and calf, often with blood flow restriction training while heavy loads aren’t possible yet.

Running, jumping and sport

✓ Running once strength and swelling targets are met

✓ Jumping and landing drills

✓ Cutting and sport-specific work

✓ Return-to-sport testing before full play
